My first child was born in 2005 and breastfeeding was a struggle for us. I wondered if nursing would ever be the "natural, normal" thing that others talked about. As we moved through those challenges, I knew I wanted to support mothers and babies. In May, 2008, I began helping mothers and babies navigate the world of breastfeeding as an LLL Leader. After over 1,500 hours of supporting nursing mothers in La Leche League, I completed a rigorous training program and exam and received the prestigeous International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) designation. I'm more than just an IBCLC, I'm a mom who has been there.
